Not every government vacancy is a permanent job. The notification states the nature of the engagement, usually in one line that is easy to skip.
| Type | What it means | Look for |
|---|---|---|
| Regular or direct recruitment | Appointment to a sanctioned post with probation, confirmation and service benefits | A pay level or pay scale |
| Contractual | Engagement for a fixed term, renewable at the employer's discretion | Consolidated monthly remuneration and a contract period |
| Deputation | Open only to serving government employees who move on loan | The words deputation or absorption, and a required pay level |
| Apprentice or trainee | Training with a stipend; no promise of a job | Reference to the Apprentices Act or a stipend |
| Tenure or project post | Tied to a project's duration | The phrase co-terminus with the project |
A contract post in a good organisation can be worth taking for the experience, provided you go in knowing its end date. Keep applying for regular posts alongside.
Each listing on Govtpvt links to the official notification so that you can read this line yourself. Private-sector openings are under private jobs.
