How to Read a Government Exam Scorecard

A scorecard packs several numbers into a small table, and candidates often compare the wrong ones. Here is what each field means.

FieldMeaning
Raw marksMarks for correct answers minus the penalty for wrong ones, in your own shift's paper
Normalised scoreRaw marks adjusted for the difficulty of your shift; used for merit in multi-shift exams
PercentileThe percentage of candidates who scored the same as or less than you; it is not a percentage of marks
Sectional marksMarks in each section, shown against the sectional minimum where one applies
Cut-offThe lowest score that qualified in your category, and for some posts in your state or zone
RankYour position overall and within your category
StatusQualified for the next stage, not qualified, or provisional

Scorecards stay online for a limited period. Save the PDF; later stages and other recruitments that accept the score will ask for it.
